چکیده

Demand-driven systems follow the model where customers enter the system, request some service, and then depart. Examples are databases, transaction processing systems and operating systems, which form the system software layer between the applications and the hardware. Achieving scalability at the system software layer is critical for the scalability of the system as a whole, and yet this layer has largely been ignored. In this paper, we characterize the scalability of the system software layer of demand-driven parallel systems based on fundamental metrics of quantitative system performance analysis. We develop a set of suucient conditions so that if a system satisses these conditions, then the system is scalable. We further argue that in practice these conditions are also necessary. In the remainder of the paper, we use the necessary and suucient conditions to develop a set of practical design guidelines, to study the eeect of application workloads, and to examine the scalability behavior of a system with only a limited number of processors.

Interval Analysis of Controllable Workspace for Cable Robots

Workspace analysis is one of the most important issues in the robotic parallel manipulator design. ‎However, ‎the unidirectional constraint imposed by cables causes this analysis more challenging in the cabledriven redundant parallel manipulators. Controllable workspace is one of the general workspace in the cabledriven redundant parallel manipulators due to the dependency on geometry parameter...

An Analytical Approach to the Effect of Viscous Dissipation on Shear-Driven Flow between two parallel plates with Constant Heat Flux Boundary Conditions

An investigation has been made to analyze the effects of viscous dissipation on the heat transfer characteristics for both hydro-dynamically and thermally fully developed, laminar shear driven flow between two infinitely long parallel plates, where the upper plate is moving in an axial direction at a constant speed. On the basis of some routine assumptions made in the literature, a close form a...

A fast wallace-based parallel multiplier in quantum-dot cellular automata

Physical limitations of Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductors (CMOS) technology at nanoscale and high cost of lithography have provided the platform for creating Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA)-based hardware. The QCA is a new technology that promises smaller, cheaper and faster electronic circuits, and has been regarded as an effective solution for scalability problems in CMOS technolog...

Stability Analysis and Robust PID Control of Cable Driven Robots Considering Elasticity in Cables

In this paper robust PID control of fully-constrained cable driven parallel manipulators with elastic cables is studied in detail. In dynamic analysis, it is assumed that the dominant dynamics of cable can be approximated by linear axial spring. To develop the idea of control for cable robots with elastic cables, a robust PID control for cable driven robots with ideal rigid cables is firstly de...

Scalability Analysis of a Parallel Dynamic Data Driven Genetic Algorithm for Forest Fire Spread Prediction∗

This work presents a performance study of a Parallel Dynamic Data Driven Genetic Algorithm (Parallel DDDGA) for Forest Fire Prediction. The main objective is to obtain a trade off between prediction quality and the time incurred in that prediction. For this purpose, High Performance Computing is applied to exploit the parallel features of the proposed parallel DDDGA. A framework was developed, ...
